November M.A.F.s
Monthly Artsy Favorites
Hello, dear reader
The last few dried leaves have fallen from their trees. Another month is coming to a close. Time to type up my MAFs.
Looking For Connection by Veronica Fusaro
Released in the end of October, this album was on repeat during the start of November for me. Someone looking for connection in a world that is in a virtual way more connected than ever. Through ten songs Fusaro takes the listener on a journey that is both personal and introspective but yet never misses to be relatable, too. Somehow the sound is fresh and new but in a timeless way.
Songs like Sloth Machine wonder why we feel down in a world of virtual and sugar highs. Jealousy is about comparing yourself to others.
Highlights on the album are No Rain No Tears, Slot Machine and It’s All A Little Too Much.
I had the pleasure of seeing this album (and some older songs) played live this month. One thing is clear, Veronica Fusaro is a powerhouse that belongs on the stage.
Witching Hour by Grace Power
If I had to sum up this EP in one sentence it would be: This is a Love Letter to healing.
I loved the previous EP (Weeping Willow) from Grace Power so much, I was scared I had too hight of hopes for this one. Oooh I love to be proven wrong when it comes to music.
This is one is amazing. Especially with the thirds song Underworld this EP got me. I mean, just look at the chorus:
Someone let me back in
I walked through the valley
I climbed up the hill
My mind stayed behind in the underworld, still
I do meditations and I get out of bed
But all of my fears ricochet in my head
Perpetual victim, eventual fraud
You’ll never escape your immovable God
Sometimes I can taste it, a life above ground
And here comes the underworld pulling me down, down, down
While I absolutely adore all eight songs, my highlights are Underworld, Still Something, More Living To Do.
I can’t fully describe the sound of this EP other than witchy sounds with pop elements and deep, personal lyrics.
Power takes the listener on a journey of pain, anger and grief but with hopeful elements and all I truly can say I love this EP and hope you’ll love it, too.
Monthly Poetic Word
Abditory comes from the medieval Latin word abdiditorium, that itself comes from abdō, which means to hide.
Today, abditory is a noun referring to a rare concealed location used for storage or to hide items. It was mostly used during the 17th century.
This month I went back to my roots. Listening to a ton of music, trying to take the lyrics in. Reconnecting with my poetry in ways I had lost. And I like to think my poetry is a form of abditory, too. I hide my emotions and memory in them.
And with that’s all I have for you this month. I hope November was kind to you. I hope it was all you needed it to be.
On to December. May it be a good month for all of us.
With Love,
Ella
